📖Hadith 34, 40 Hadith an-Nawawi
On the authority of Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.
- This hadith teaches Muslims about the importance of taking action to stop evil and wrongdoing in society. According to the hadith, if a person sees something wrong or evil happening, they should try to stop it with their own hands if they are able to. This means taking direct physical action to stop the wrongdoing. However, if a person is not able to physically stop the wrongdoing, they should speak out against it with their tongue. This means using their words to condemn the wrongdoing and persuade others to do the same. If a person is unable to take either physical or verbal action, then they should at least feel a sense of dislike and disapproval in their heart towards the wrongdoing. This shows the least level of faith and commitment to stopping evil.
In summary, the hadith teaches Muslims that they should actively strive to stop evil in their society, and that taking direct action is the most effective way to do so. If they are unable to do so, they should still use their words to speak out against the wrongdoing, and if they cannot do that, they should at least feel a sense of disapproval in their hearts.
