Sahih al-Bukhari 3431
Narrated Sa`id bin Al-Musaiyab: Abu Huraira said, “I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, ‘There is none born among the off-spring of Adam, but Satan touches it. A child therefore, cries loudly at the time of birth because of the touch of Satan, except Mary and her child.” Then Abu Huraira recited: “And I seek refuge with You for her and for her offspring from the outcast Satan” (3.36)
- This hadith is a narration from Sa`id bin Al-Musaiyab, who reported that Abu Huraira said that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated that every human being is touched by Satan at birth, and as a result, they cry loudly, except for Mary and her son, Jesus (peace be upon him). The narration suggests that the touch of Satan is a natural occurrence that happens to every human being, and it is the reason why babies cry at birth. However, Mary and Jesus (peace be upon him) were exempted from this touch of Satan. This exemption is a special grace and blessing from Allah, as they were both righteous and chosen by Allah for their unique roles in His plan. The recitation of the verse from Surah Al-Imran (3:36), which seeks refuge for Mary and her offspring from Satan, emphasizes the importance of seeking protection and guidance from Allah, as Satan is an enemy of human beings and seeks to misguide and harm them.
