Sahih Muslim 2988 b
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The servant speaks words that he does not understand its repercussions but he sinks down in Hell-Fire farther than the distance between the east and the west.
- This hadith (narration) from Sahih Muslim 2988 b is a warning from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about the importance of being mindful of the words we speak. According to this narration, a person may speak without fully understanding the implications or consequences of their words, which can lead to serious harm. The Prophet (peace be upon him) warns that such a person will be punished severely in the afterlife and will sink down into Hell-Fire farther than the distance between the east and the west. This emphasizes the seriousness of the matter and highlights the importance of being cautious with our speech and using it wisely.
The hadith serves as a reminder to all of us to be mindful of our words and the impact they can have on ourselves and others. We should strive to speak only that which is true, kind, and beneficial, and avoid speaking without thinking or speaking in a harmful or hurtful manner.
