📖Sunan Abi Dawud 3092
Narrated Umm al-Ala: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) visited me while I was sick. He said: Be glad, Umm al-Ala’ for Allah removes the sins of a Muslim for his illness as fire removes the dross of gold and silver.
- The meaning of this hadith is that sickness or illness can be a means of expiation for a Muslim’s sins. When a person is sick, they may experience physical or emotional pain and suffering, which can be a difficult trial to endure. However, if they remain patient and seek Allah’s help, their suffering can become a means of purification and forgiveness for their past sins. Just as fire purifies gold and silver by removing impurities, illness can purify the soul of a Muslim by removing sins. This hadith encourages Muslims to view their illnesses as an opportunity to draw closer to Allah, seek forgiveness, and strive to improve their spiritual state.
