📖Sahih Muslim 2558 a
Abu Huraira reported that a person said: Allah’s Messenger, I have relatives with whom I try, to have close relationship, but they sever (this relation). I treat them well, but they treat me ill. I am sweet to them but they are harsh towards me. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: If it is so as you say, then you in fact throw hot ashes (upon their faces) and there would always remain with you on behalf of Allah (an Angel to support you) who would keep you dominant over them so long as you adhere to this (path of righteousness).
- This hadith from Sahih Muslim 2558 a narrates that a man complained to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that he tries to maintain good relations with his relatives, but they treat him badly in return. The man expresses that he is kind and gentle with them, but they are harsh and rude towards him. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised the man that if his statement is true, then he is doing the right thing by maintaining good relations with his relatives even though they mistreat him. The Prophet likened his good behavior to throwing hot ashes on their faces, indicating that it will cause them discomfort and embarrassment for mistreating him. Furthermore, the Prophet promised that Allah would always send an angel to support the man and ensure his dominance over his relatives, as long as he continues to follow the path of righteousness and maintain good relations with them.
This hadith teaches us the importance of maintaining good relationships with our relatives, even if they are not treating us well. It also shows us that Allah will always support those who do good deeds and remain steadfast on the path of righteousness.
