Hadith on Hereafter: Deeds for Heaven and Hell in Islam

đź“–Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2004
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah was asked about that for which people are admitted into Paradise the most, so he said: “Taqwa of Allah, and good character.” And he was asked about that for which people are admitted into the Fire the most, and he said: ” The mouth and the private parts.”

  • This Hadith, found in Jami’ at-Tirmidhi, is a saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) narrated by Abu Hurairah. In this Hadith, the Prophet was asked about the deeds that lead to admittance to Paradise and the deeds that lead to admittance to the Fire. The Prophet replied that the most important deed that leads to admittance to Paradise is taqwa, which means the fear of Allah and obedience to His commands, and good character. The Prophet emphasized the importance of cultivating good character and righteousness in one’s life. Regarding the deeds that lead to admittance to the Fire, the Prophet mentioned that it is the mouth and the private parts. The meaning behind this is that many sins and transgressions are committed through these two organs, such as lying, backbiting, slander, and engaging in unlawful sexual behavior. The Prophet highlighted the importance of guarding these two organs and being cautious of what we say and do with them. This Hadith is a reminder that good character and righteousness are essential in Islam, and that we should be cautious of our actions and behavior, particularly when it comes to the mouth and the private parts. By doing so, we can strive towards admittance to Paradise and seek protection from the Fire.
