Sunan Ibn Majah 3438
It was narrated from ‘Abdullah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Allah does not send down any disease, but He also sends down the cure for it.”
From this Hadith, we can derive several important lessons:
- Allah’s comprehensive knowledge and mercy: The Hadith affirms that Allah, in His infinite knowledge and mercy, has created remedies for the diseases that exist in the world. This emphasizes His care and concern for His creation, as He not only allows diseases to occur but also provides the means for their cure.
- Human endeavor in seeking knowledge: The Hadith implies that it is within the capability of human beings to discover and develop remedies for diseases. It encourages human beings to utilize their intellect, seek knowledge, and strive to find cures and treatments for the various ailments that afflict humanity. - Encouragement for medical research: The Hadith can be seen as an encouragement for medical research and advancements. It underscores the importance of exploring the healing properties of plants, developing medicines, and investing in medical sciences to alleviate human suffering. Muslims are urged to engage in beneficial pursuits, including the study and practice of medicine, to benefit themselves and society.
It is important to note that while the Hadith acknowledges that the cure for diseases is from Allah, it does not mean that the knowledge and efforts of human beings are irrelevant.
