Sahih Muslim 533 b
Mahmud b. Labid reported: When ‘Uthman b. ‘Affan intended to build the mosque (of the Prophet) the people did not approve of it. They liked that it should be kept in the same state. Thereupon he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: He who built a mosque for Allah, Allah would build a house for him like it in Paradise.
- This Hadith from Sahih Muslim 533 b, states that if someone builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, then Allah will build a similar house for them in Paradise. This means that Allah will reward the person who builds a mosque with a great reward in the Hereafter. However, this does not mean that a person can do wrong and then build a mosque to compensate for their wrongdoing. Building a mosque should be done purely for the sake of Allah, and not as a way to seek forgiveness for sins. Sins can only be forgiven through sincere repentance to Allah and seeking His forgiveness. Furthermore, this Hadith emphasizes the importance of building mosques and investing in acts of worship. Mosques are considered to be very special places in Islam, as they are where Muslims gather to pray, learn, and connect with each other and with Allah. By building a mosque, one is contributing to the Muslim community and helping to establish a place for the remembrance of Allah.
