Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever says (something) about the Qur’an without knowledge, then let him take his seat in the Fire.”
- This hadith, narrated by Ibn Abbas, highlights the grave sin of speaking about the Quran without proper knowledge. It serves as a reminder to Muslims to be cautious in their speech about the Quran and to avoid making statements about it without adequate understanding. The Quran is considered the most sacred text in Islam and is believed to be the word of Allah as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Therefore, it is of utmost importance to approach its interpretation and understanding with the appropriate level of respect and reverence. The hadith warns that speaking about the Quran without proper knowledge can lead to severe consequences, such as being punished in the Fire (i.e. Hell). This is because misrepresenting the Quran can mislead others and cause them to develop a distorted understanding of the religion. In essence, this hadith emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge before speaking about the Quran and reminds Muslims to approach the Quran with humility and reverence.
