Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1924
Abdullah bin ‘Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “The merciful are shown mercy by Ar-Rahman. Be merciful on the earth, and you will be shown mercy from Who is above the heavens. The womb is named after Ar-Rahman, so whoever connects it, Allah connects him, and whoever severs it, Allah severs him.”
- This hadith is a reminder that Allah (Ar-Rahman) is merciful and shows mercy to those who are merciful. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encourages us to be merciful to others, especially on the earth where we live, and in doing so, we will receive mercy from Allah who is above the heavens. The second part of the hadith emphasizes the importance of maintaining family ties, which is represented by the womb. The Arabic word “rahim” means womb and also means mercy. Thus, family ties are directly related to mercy. Those who maintain their family ties are rewarded with Allah’s connection, and those who sever their family ties will be severed from Allah’s blessings.
In summary, the hadith teaches us to be merciful to others and to maintain our family ties, both of which are actions that lead to Allah’s mercy and blessings.
