Hadith on Hereafter: Thief and adulterer can still enter Paradise

📖Sahih al-Bukhari 7487
Narrated Abu Dharr: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, Gabriel came to me and gave me the glad tidings that anyone who died without worshipping anything besides Allah, would enter Paradise. I asked (Gabriel), ‘Even if he committed theft, and even if he committed illegal sexual intercourse?’ He said, ‘(Yes), even if he committed theft, and even if he Committed illegal sexual intercourse.
  • This Hadith narrated by Abu Dharr, in Sahih al-Bukhari, mentions that the Prophet (ï·º) received glad tidings from the angel Gabriel that anyone who dies worshipping only Allah will enter Paradise, even if they had committed major sins like theft or illegal sexual intercourse. It is important to note that in Islam, there are prescribed punishments for certain sins as mentioned in the Quran 5:38|Quran 24:2| and Sunnah. If a person commits such a sin and the punishment has been prescribed, they must face that punishment or seek forgiveness from the victim or their heirs. However, the Hadith highlights the mercy and forgiveness of Allah towards those who sincerely repent and turn back to Him, seeking His forgiveness. If a person has committed a sin but truly repents and seeks forgiveness from Allah, then Allah is Merciful and Forgiving and will forgive them. It is also important to note that seeking forgiveness from Allah alone does not absolve a person of their responsibilities towards the victim or society. They must still make amends and seek forgiveness from those they have wronged, and if the victim does not forgive them, then they will be held accountable for their crime according to Islamic law.
