đź“–Sahih al-Bukhari 2465
Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Beware! Avoid sitting on he roads (ways).” The people said, “There is no way out of it as these are our sitting places where we have talks.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If you must sit there, then observe the rights of the way.” They asked, “What are the rights of the way?” He said, “They are the lowering of your gazes (on seeing what is illegal to look at), refraining from harming people, returning greetings, advocating good and forbidding evil.”
- This hadith emphasizes the importance of respecting public spaces and behaving in a way that does not harm others. It teaches Muslims to be mindful of their surroundings and to observe certain etiquettes while sitting in public places. This includes refraining from staring at inappropriate things, avoiding causing harm or inconvenience to others, and promoting good behavior while discouraging bad behavior. The lesson from this hadith is to cultivate a sense of social responsibility and to prioritize the well-being of the community over individual desires or preferences.
