Hadith on Animals: Prohibition of Aiming at Living Creatures

📖Sunan an-Nasa’i 4438
It was narrated that Abu Tha’labah said: “The Messenger of Allah said:
An animal that has been taken as a target is not lawful.”

  • This hadith from Sunan an-Nasa’i 4438 teaches us that the Prophet Muhammad stated that it is not permissible to intentionally take an animal as a target. The term “target” in this context refers to purposely aiming at and hunting an animal for sport or amusement, rather than for legitimate purposes such as obtaining food or protecting oneself from harm. The hadith emphasizes the importance of treating animals with respect and refraining from unnecessary harm or cruelty towards them.
