Hadith on Mother: Consequences of Neglecting Elderly Parents

📖Sahih Muslim 2551 a
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: Let him be humbled into dust; let him be humbled into dust. It was said: Allah’s Messenger, who is he? He said: He who sees either of his parents during their old age or he sees both of them, but he does not enter Paradise.

  • The meaning of this hadith emphasizes the importance of showing respect, care, and kindness towards parents, particularly during their old age. It highlights the gravity of neglecting or mistreating one’s parents in their later years, and the severe consequences associated with such behavior. The repetition of “let him be humbled into dust” emphasizes the severity of this act and the need for humility and reverence towards parents. In Islam, honoring and caring for parents, especially in their old age, is considered a fundamental duty, and disobedience or neglect towards parents is regarded as a grave sin. This hadith serves as a reminder to Muslims to honor and respect their parents throughout their lives and to strive to enter Paradise by fulfilling this important obligation.
