Hadith on the Sovereignty of Allah over Human Hearts

📖Sahih Muslim 2655
Abdullah b. Amr b. al-‘As reported that he heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Verily, the hearts of all the sons of Adam are between the two fingers out of the fingers of the Compassionate Lord as one heart. He turns that to any (direction) He likes. Then Allahs Messenger (ﷺ) said: 0 Allah, the Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Thine obedience.

  • This hadith, which is a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recorded in Sahih Muslim, highlights the concept of Allah’s control over the hearts of human beings. The Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have said that all human hearts are in the grasp of Allah, and He can turn them in any direction He chooses. This hadith emphasizes the belief in Allah’s complete and ultimate control over everything, including human beings’ hearts and their inclinations. It also highlights the importance of seeking Allah’s guidance and asking Him to turn our hearts towards obedience to Him. Overall, this hadith teaches Muslims to recognize Allah’s power over their hearts and to continuously seek His guidance and help in remaining steadfast in their faith and righteous actions.
