Quran Water and Life
Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?
And Allah has created from water every living creature. Some of them crawl on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. Allah creates whatever He wills. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything.
And it is He who has created from water a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation].
- The statements in these verses of the Quran (21:30, 24:45, and 25:54) regarding the creation of living beings from water are scientifically correct. Water is an essential component of life on Earth, and all living beings are made up of water to varying degrees. Furthermore, the scientific theory of evolution suggests that all living beings have a common ancestor, which supports the idea of the unity of life on Earth. Therefore, the Quranic verses accurately describe the role of water in the creation of life and its importance as a fundamental component of all living beings.
Every living thing made from water
The idea that water is a fundamental building block of life is also supported by scientific evidence. Water is essential for the existence and functioning of all living things on Earth. It plays a central role in many of the chemical reactions that take place in the body, and it is necessary for the proper functioning of cells, tissues, and organs. Water is also necessary for the transportation of nutrients and waste products within the body, and it helps to regulate body temperature and maintain homeostasis. Overall, the idea that water is essential for life is a fundamental concept in both the Quran and modern science.
All living organisms are predominantly made of water: human beings about 60% according to NASA fact sheet70%, fish about 80%, plants between 80% and 90%. Water is necessary for all chemical reactions that occur in living cells—(it) is essential for food production and all living ecosystems.
