Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said: “A man is upon the religion of his friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.”
- This hadith (saying of the Prophet Muhammad) emphasizes the importance of choosing one’s friends wisely. It highlights the fact that the company we keep has a significant impact on our beliefs and practices. If we surround ourselves with people who follow a particular ideology or religion, we are more likely to adopt similar beliefs and practices. Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad advises us to be careful about the friends we choose and to be mindful of their beliefs and values. This does not mean that we should only befriend people who share our beliefs or practices, but rather, we should be aware of the potential impact that our friends may have on us.
In summary, this hadith teaches us to be mindful of the influence our friends may have on us and to choose our friends wisely, so that we may be guided towards what is good and righteous.
