📖Sahih Muslim 2258
Sa`d reported Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: It is better for the belly of any one of you to be stuffed with pus rather than to stuff (one’s mind) with poetry.
- This hadith is a warning against indulging in poetry and wasting one’s time on it, to the point where it becomes an obsession and distracts a person from fulfilling their duties and obligations to Allah. This is because poetry often contains themes that are not conducive to good moral behavior or a sound belief system, and it can be a source of distraction from what is more important. Muslims are encouraged to engage in activities that are beneficial and help them in their spiritual growth and development. They should prioritize seeking knowledge, performing acts of worship, and engaging in good deeds that benefit themselves and society as a whole.
In summary, this hadith teaches Muslims to be mindful of their time and to use it wisely in pursuits that are pleasing to Allah and bring them closer to Him, rather than wasting it on trivial matters.
