Hadith on Prayer: Reciting Umm al-Qur’an in Every Prayer

📖Sahih Muslim 394 b
Ubada b. as-Samit reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: He who does not recite Umm al-Qur’an is not credited with having observed the prayer.

  • The Hadith means that a person who does not recite Surah Al-Fatiha (the opening chapter of the Qur’an) in their prayer will not receive the full reward for performing the prayer. Reciting Surah Al-Fatiha is an essential and mandatory part of the daily prayers (Salah) in Islam, and it is considered the foundation of the Qur’an. The Hadith emphasizes the importance of reciting Surah Al-Fatiha and highlights its significance in the daily prayer.
